Kept in publisher's fall-down-back box. No. 212 of an edition limited to 250 copies. First edition illustrated by André Marchand. Text originally published in 1957. André Marchand [1907-1997], French painter of the new Paris school and one of the founder members of the Salon de Mai. Saint-John Perse (pseud. for Alexis Léger)[1887-1975], was awared the Nobel Prize in 1960 "for the soaring flight and the evocative imagery of his poetry which in a visionary fashion reflects the conditions of our time".
