About Bukowskis

Courses at Bukowskis

Knowledge is the key. Following the success from last autumn, Bukowskis is offering further courses this spring. A fifth edition of Young Collectors will be launched this spring, and our new series of “Smart Art Courses" will continue with courses in contemporary photography, design and diamond jewellery.

Young Collectors

If you want to learn more about the world of auctions, get hands-on advice and acquire essential knowledge about art history, this is a unique opportunity to meet our experts. Here are the spring dates for Young Collectors.

Improve your knowledge and understanding of art and antiquities as objects for collecting, pleasure and investments, based on the items consigned to Bukowskis for the Spring viewings.

In a light-hearted atmosphere our specialist curators will guide you through the theory and practice. We will study collectibles, turning them every way to look at stamps, discussing terminology and trends. Choose between morning or evening courses.

Bukowskis Smart Courses

Get art-smart – Bukowski’s smart morning courses in Design, Photography & Diamond jewellery.

This autumn’s morning courses were a success, so we are continuing with three new, innovative courses. Each course consists of three lessons. The teachers this term will again be the vastly popular, provocative and knowledgeable Dennis Dahlqvist and Anders Karnell and Bukowskis specialist; Johanna Pietsch.

Bukowskis smart course in modern and contemporary design

Design is a broad concept, and everyone seems to be an expert, judging by the number of shops, trade fairs and newspaper supplements. But even here there are some essential facts that we need to know about. Not all contemporary design will become classics like Svenskt Tenn and Swedish Grace. Get design-smart and learn to tell a passing fad from good, innovative design. Breakfast included.

  • Friday, 20 April, 8.30-10.00 am: Bukowskis, Arsenalsgatan 4. The Modern Sale is the largest Nordic auction for modern design – a cornucopia and a unique opportunity to get close to (sit on and touch) popular and less well-known design classics. Discussion and viewing with Dennis Dahlqvist and Bukowskis’ specialist on 20th century design, Eva Seeman.
  • Friday, 4 May, 8.30-10.00 am: At Home with the Expert. Dennis Dahlqvist has worked for many years in the borderland between art and design. An opportunity to experience avant-garde design in a home environment!
  • Friday, 11 May, 8.30-10.00 am: The best design is found at home. We visit one of Sweden’s finest specialists on interior design. Location to be announced.

Prizes and sign up

  • Fee per course (three lessons including breakfast): SEK 1,600 + VAT
  • Fee for two courses (design, photography or diamonds): SEK 3,000 + VAT
  • Fee for all three courses: SEK 4,300 + VAT

Bukowskis smart photo course

We repeat this autumn’s success but with an entirely new programme. Previous participants are guaranteed a new experience and new discussions. New participants – take this opportunity to learn how to evaluate photography and throw yourself into the discussion. High-flying surprises in store! Breakfast included.

  • 8 May, 8.30-10 am: We look at Stockholm’s best current photo exhibition together. Location to be announced. It could be anywhere, from Moderna Museet or Fotografiska, to a private collector.
  • 15 May at 8.30-10.00 am: Meet the Artist. We meet an artist working with photo-based art, and a professional photographer (fashion or documentary). What is the difference, what is the most valuable, and can you call yourself a photographer if someone else takes the picture?
  • 22 May 8.30-10.00 am: Bukowskis, Arsenalsgatan 4. Bukowskis presents its Contemporary Sale specialising in photography, together with the curator Lena Nytén, who will be talking to Anders Karnell and the photography guru Hasse Persson.

Prizes and sign up

  • Fee per course (three lessons including breakfast): SEK 1,600 + VAT
  • Fee for two courses (design, photography or diamonds): SEK 3,000 + VAT

About our teachers

Dennis Dahlqvist is a lecturer on art and design history at Beckmans College of Design and at the Stockholm University College of Arts, Crafts and Design, and a guest lecturer on art and design history at Södertörn University, an art critic for Expressen and Svenska Dagbladet, and, since 2001, a popular (and feared) design critic on Swedish Television, SVT. In 1993, he started the legendary gallery Ynglingagatan 1, which was featured in an exhibition that opened in November at Moderna Museet.

Anders Karnell is the art editor at Nöjesguiden, a former presenter of the arts programme Arty on Swedish Television, SVT, and is frequently heard on Swedish Radio. He is one of Moderna Museet’s most popular art guides, thanks to his interactive presentation style – so look forward to lively discussions! Anders Karnell introduced queer tours at Moderna Museet in connection with Stockholm Pride Festival.
