This spring's Modern Sale 2011
The explosion of 2010 leads to record consignments.
Last year's record levels for Swedish modernists such as Hjertén, Baertling, X:et and Gösta Adrian-Nilsson have opened the doors for exceptional works by the Swedish modernists of very high quality. The total value of this spring's Modern sale is almost 6 Million EUR, which strengthens Bukowskis' position as market leader. The piece that attracts the most fascination is Gösta Adrian-Nilsson's "Rodd" from 1917, with a starting bid of 650 000 - 865 000 EUR
Last autumn the art market started to move in interesting ways. New levels for Sigrid Hjertén's work from the 30's, rare paintings by Olle Baertling on the market and sales in the millions for Gösta Adrian-Nilsson. These experiences and strong results have resulted in more important pieces displayed on the market.
- We are experiencing that sellers are trusting the market at the moment. This many important objects during one season is not common, says head of the art department Anna-Karin Pusic, who has worked at Bukowskis for twenty years, mainly with the Swedish modernists.
Gösta Adrian-Nilsson's "Rodd" from 1917 is a painting inspired by his time in Berlin and the art movements on the continent - cubism. In GAN's hand it was interpreted strongly, soberly and playfully with strongly stylized sailors playing over a rhombus surface. The effect is surprising and almost shocking, even nearly a hundred years later. The painting has never been on the market before and the starting bid is 650 000 - 865 000 EUR, which means that a new record for Swedish modernism is about to be beat.
Other pieces that stand out in this springs Modern sale are:
Otto G Carlsund, 1926 opening 2 - 2.5 Million SEK
"Ynglingen och Flickan" by Dardel, 1919, opening 1 – 1.2 Million SEK
"Blå pråmar" by Sigrid Hjertén, 1915, starting 900 000 – 1.1 Million SEK
