Prints and furniture sold as hot cakes
The surprise of the day was a table by Hjalmar Jackson with chairs in the same style. The final price landed at SEK 428,000.
International prints
All today’s departments went quite well, high above estimates, with very few lots returned to the owners. Swedish modern design sells like hot cakes.
The Print Department made packet. Practically everything was sold at high prices, such as a colorful print by Marc Chagall, inspired by the opera Carmen, and the head of a young girl by Pablo Picasso.
“As we saw yesterday, we sold international art at high levels, and today it became even clearer that there is a huge interest from buyers from all over the world,” says Anders Welander, print specialist at Bukowskis.
Swedish design
Axel Einar Hjorth’s solid ‘mountain hut’ furniture attracts a wide audience today, and the pieces reminiscent of the seven dwarfs went at double the estimates. The highly respected cast-iron firm Näfveqvarn made a welcome entrance again, and is apparently much appreciated internationally. Cast-iron Art Deco outdoors furniture of that kind is very rare elsewhere.
