Knockout for Zorn

Bukowskis | Anders Zorn | Reviel ...Anders Zorn’s much-rumoured small study attracted exceptional interest in today’s sale, and after intense bidding the final price came to SEK 15,290,000. Barely half an hour earlier six bidders had fought over August Strindberg’s expressive piece The Birch Tree I (Autumn).

“Two shooting stars in the space of half an hour. Strindberg only painted some 125 pieces. That was one of them. And Zorn’s Reveil was a sensation already during the viewing. It’s great that such top works come our way,” says Bukowskis CEO Michael Storåkers.

Anders Zorn, Reveil, Boulevard Clichy. Sold for SEK 15,290,000.
The work has been in the same family for 120 years, and has only once been exhibited during that time. The work is therefore in exceptionally fine condition, and experts agree it is one of the artist’s greatest watercolours.

August Strindberg, The Birch Tree I (Autumn). Sold for SEK 8,620,000.
The picture was already on view at the highly successful spring sale Strindberg at Bukowskis, which featured 28 pieces by the artist.

The Classic Sale is currently in progress. The first of the four days features Swedish and international art and carpets.
