Spectacular success for Orientalia
Final prices SEK 22 million – estimates 7.2 million
When the last day of the auction – the Oriental Department – was summed up on Friday night, it was clear: Chinese collectors had definitively found their Mecca in Stockholm, or, to be more precise, at Bukowskis. The Oriental Sale finished an outstanding 135 percent over the estimate. Cecilia Nordström, Bukowskis specialist on Oriental art, was very pleased:
“The customers know we are very careful, accepting only objects of the highest quality and provenance. It gives them a sense of security and encourages them to bid higher.”
This made it all the more satisfying that it was the Östasiatista museum which finally secured the magnificent late 18th century punch bowl with its lively depiction of trade in Canton at the many national trading stations.
The auction on Friday confirmed, once again and without a shadow of doubt, that Bukowskis is the leader in the Nordic countries in Oriental works of art.
