Two volumes, contemporary half tree calf, spines decorated in gilt and blind with four raised bands. Very slight wear, some foxing mainly to first volume, second volume with light staining of a few pages, and with dampstains along upper and outer margins towards end. Some markings in pencil in first part. Provenance: Ownership inscription of Nils Samuel von Koch (1801-1881), Liberal Swedish politician, Chancellor of Justice 1844-1866. From his library at Augerum, Blekinge.
First edition of Bentham's landmark work on the law of evidence, published in English two years later, in 1825.
