How do I buy an an object from Bukowskis?

Bukowskis offers international fine art hammer auctions several times a year in Stockholm and Helsinki.
There are four ways to bid at Bukowskis.

In person - Once registred for a paddle you are welcome to bid in the salesroom. The auctioneer will announce the bids. If the object and price is right, raise the paddle. Continue until you are the only bidder remaining. The auctioneer will then bring down the gavel and you are the winner!

Online bidding - To bid in real-time online is not only easy and convenient, it has become very popular among our clients. Bid from where ever you are, but makr sure to register for an account in advance. To bid using your PC or Mac, you must have Adobe Flash 10+ installed.

By telephone - If you prefer to bid by phone, we will call you from the salesroom and bid on your behalf. To apply for telephone bidding (prior to 8 PM CET the day before the lot is hammered), please download the form below, fill in and fax (+46 (0)8 611 46 74) or mail (telefonbud@bukowskis.com) it to us along with a copy of valid identification. For Finland print this form and fax (+358-9-612 1266) or mail helsinki@bukowskis.com along with a copy of valid identification.

Absentee bid - If your are unable to attend the auction, simply place an absentee bid at least 1 hour before the sale and we will bid on the item for you. It is easy. Just submit your maximum bid online. You can also complete the form in your sale catalogue or download a form below, fill in and fax it to client service. To find out the result, view auction results online in real-time or contact our Client Service.

Are there any additional fees to a purchase?

All purchases at Bukowskis are charged with a buying commission and VAT. Lots are sold subject to a buyers premium of 18% on the hammer price up to SEK 10 million. If the hammer price is above SEK 10 million, the buyer’ s premium is 12% on the exceeding part. VAT will be added to the buyer’s premium. Droit de suite is a right granted to artists or their heirs, in some jurisdictions, to receive a fee on the resale of their works of art. By law, the buyer pays an artist fee for certain works of art. This fee is 5% of the hammer price, or less. For more information about this law see: www.bus.se

Buyers in Finland are charged with a buying commission of 18% + VAT 24% on the commission. Droite de Suite may be added as in Sweden, see above for more information.

How do I pay my purchase?

Payment can be made directly to the cashier or via bank transfer or credit card. Payment must be made within 8 working days of the date of auction. Once purchased, lots must be collected within 8 working days, any items not collected will be subject to a storage charge of SEK 50 per item (€ 5 for Finland) and day plus VAT. Furniture and bulky object are subject to a dubble storage fee.
Payment for purchased items cannot be made to ArtMove, only to Bukowskis.

Klarna
Payments will be made through Klarna for our private customers living in Sweden or Finland.
You will be directed to Klarna-payment service after you have clicked "To pay" on My Bukowskis and chosen an invoice for payment.
This only regards payments from private clients and up to a limit of 100.000 SEK.

When and where can I collect my purchase?

All lots can be collected from Arsenalsgatan 4, Stockholm, Mon–Fri 09.00–17.00 up until the last day of the auction. Thereafter all lots, with the exception of jewellery, are moved to ArtMove at Frihamnsgatan 58, Magasin 6, entrance 3, Stockholm. Lots can be collected from ArtMove two days after the day of the auction. Opening hours Monday to Wednesday and Friday 9.00–17.00, Thursday 9.00–18.00.

Purchased lots should be collected within eight business days after the last day of the auction. Lots can only be released after the receipt of full payment by Bukowskis.
Payment for purchased items cannot be made to ArtMove, only to Bukowskis.

For lots that are not collected within the above time period, a storage fee of 50 kr. (incl. VAT) per lot per day will apply. The storage fee for furniture and other bulky items is double that of other lots.

For objects sold in Helsinki, all collections are made at Stora Robertsgatan 12.
After eight days, a storage fee of 50 SEK per day and object is added. VAT not included.

Who arranges transport?

Shipping arrangements is on behalf of the buyer. Bukowskis has no transport service to offer, apart from delivery to our showrooms in Stockholm, Helsinki, Gothenburg and Malmö. Transports between our showrooms leaves every week. We can keep low prices by a simple pricing model. Contact Client Services to order delivery between our showrooms. If you do not have the possibility to arrange shipping or pickup at our showrooms, you can easily obtain shipping quotes from any of Bukowskis shipping partners.

Can I cancel a winning bid?

It is never possible to cancel a winning bid. The cancellation right of 14 days according to “Distans- och hemförsäljningslagen” is not applicable for winning bids at Bukowskis. Although you can always change your bid by placing a new bid on the same item.

Due to that you always can place a bid at our offices in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö.

How much does it cost to sell through Bukowskis?

For every lot, Bukowskis charges the seller a vendor’s commission and sale-related expenses which include the cost of insuring the property while on our premises and charges for catalogue photography (= handling fee in Finland), plus VAT. A specialist will discuss these charges with you at the time of consignment.
An additional insurance fee will be charged with 1% of the hammer price. Bukowskis Market keeps all auction items insured

When do I receive my money after the sale?

After the auction, Bukowskis will notify the seller as to the status of each lot offered for sale. Provided payment has been received by the buyer, we will pay net sale proceeds (the hammer price less the vendor’s commission and sale-related expenses) to the seller 30 calendar days after the auction.

What is an estimate?

The estimate is a market valuation of the object before the auction set by our inhouse specialists and shall only serve as a guide for the buyer. The price at which an object is eventually sold can substantially differ from the estimate price.

Making an appraisal

There are several factors and circumstances that should be considered when estimating an object. Our specialists consider quality, but also supply and demand. Different approaches are employed in investigating an object depending on its category. Generally speaking, we use three basic concepts: object, material and condition.
Object: We analyze the object in terms of composition, execution, etc. We try to identify the artist, their signature, style and expression, etc. How the subject is positioned in its social context, its provenance, etc. Material: We assess the condition of the object in terms of its material, paint layers and support material, such as if it is silver or nickel silvers, painting on canvas or wood panel etc. Condition: During examination we inspect the condition of the object. Whether there is previous damage, restoration, wear etc. and how this affects the whole object.
These elements, together with former national and international prices is what determines the value. Our ambition is always to perform an accurate valuation.

What is a reserve bid?

A reserve bid is a hidden price under which the seller will not sell the item. Bukowskis accepts bids below the reserve bid, but they won’t be winning bids.

What is a maximum bid?

Usually the bidding on an item takes off in the last few minutes. If you place a maximum bid you never have to worry that you will forget to bid later. You only pay as much as it takes for you to win the item, with your maximum bid as a cap.

This is how it works:

  • Enter your maximum bid, the highest amount you are willing to pay, even if it’s much more than the starting bid or the current highest bid. Our maximum bid service will bid for you, placing the smallest necessary bid at every time, up to your maximum bid amount.

  • If there are no other bids, your bid will match the starting bid. If the item has a reserve price and your maximum bid is below it, your bid will be the same amount as your maximum bid. If your maximum bid is above the reserve price, your bid will be the same amount as the reserve price. As long as no one bids against you, your bid will remain unchanged. If you’re outbid, the bid service will place another bid according to our bid increment, as long as this doesn’t exceed your maximum bid. The new bid is always the lowest necessary for you to win the auction. If someone bids over your maximum bid you will immediately receive an email notification. You can then place a new maximum bid.

  • You can increase your maximum bid at any time, even when you have the highest bid, to ensure no one outbids you at the last minute.

  • If two bidders place the same maximum bid, the earlier bid wins.

How do I sign up for Bukowskis Market customer account?

Instructions:

  • You can register as a customer here, or by clicking on "Sign up" in the top-right corner. It does not cost anything to register.

  • Enter your personal and contact details, then click the "Register" button.

  • After you've registered at our site, an email will be sent to you. The purpose of this e-mail is to confirm that your e-mail account works.

    Open the e-mail message and click the activation link.

    If you can't find our email, please make sure it has not been delivered to your spam folder. If you still can't find the email, don't hesitate to contact our customer service.

  • When your customer profile is activated you must login and accept our General terms to be able to place bids in our online auctions. Click on "Sign in" and type your email address as your user name and then the password which you have chosen.
    When you have logged in, you will see your name on the upper right corner.

What can I do when I have forgotten my password?

Why is my account suspended?

An account can be suspended for several reasons. These are the most common:

  • You have overdue invoices.

  • You have items that haven't been collected.

  • Other reason that necessitates that we get in touch with you. Contact customer service

Use of my personal data?

Bukowskis is subject to the provisions in the Swedish Personal Data Act (1998:204), the Finish Personal Data Act (523/1999) and the Finnish Information Society Code (917/2014) regarding processing and storage of personal data. Personal data collected by Bukowskis will be used by Bukowskis to administer and control the Service, the Customer’s use of the Service, to administrate the parties’ contractual relationship and to fulfil Bukowskis’ obligations related to the auction business and under applicable law. The personal data may also be processed for market and customer analyses and statistics and for marketing purposes such as customized marketing, administration notices, product offers and newsletters. Further, the personal data may be used for invoicing and to send important information to the Customer e.g. regarding changes of applicable fees, price list, Conditions or to contact the Customer and provide information customized after the interests of the Customer. Personal data may be updated and supplemented by collecting data from private and public registers. For the above-stated purposes, personal data may be disclosed to other companies within the Bukowski group and to companies with which the group cooperates. A person who (i) does not want his or her personal data to be used for direct marketing purposes or (ii) wants to receive information or request correction of the personal data being processed by Bukowskis; shall make a written request to this effect in writing to Bukowskis.

  • For preliminary valuation please send us pictures and description by using this form: contact Please take a few extra pictures of any stamps, signatures, damages or other features that could affect the value. The sharper images, the better.
  • Do you know anything about the item's provenance please let us know. If the object is connected to a wellknown location or person it can affect the value significantly.
  • Our experience is that a too high reserve price inhibits the bidding, please ask our assessors for advice.

You are always welcome to visit us with items you want to get valuated and sold on auction. You never need to make an appointment, our assessors are always here! We recommend that you always contact us beforehand for a valuation, especially regarding bulky or heavy items. You can take pictures of your items and send them to us by using this form: contact

  • If you come with a full van or several boxes of items it may be a good idea to contact us beforehand so we can assist you better by having assessors ready.
  • If you use a shipper/representative to deliver your items to us, please contact us first by phone or e-mail to ensure that we accept these items to be auctioned on Bukowskis Market.

How much does it cost to sell through Bukowskis Market?
How long does it take you to publish an item I want to sell? Why have only some of my items been published?

It will usually take us about 1 - 3 weeks to publish an item. Items are continually published after being catalogued and photographed.

What happens if my item is not sold?

We will publish all items three times and will allow seven days to pass between each time.
If item is not sold, we do not charge anything.

What do the terms like "estimate" and "reserve price" mean?

The estimate is a market valuation of the object before the auction.The price at which an object is eventually sold can substantially differ from the estimate price.

A reserve price is a hidden minimum price under which the seller will not sell the item.

How do i find items at Bukowskis Market?

There are several ways to find items you are interested in. I all depends on which way suits you the best.

Browse by category

On top of the first page you find our categories. Here you simply click a category and then you can either narrow down to sub categories or browse through the items.

You write the name of the item you search for and the click Search item. Then you can browse through the search results. Try not to use too many words since this can return to many or too few results.

You can when you are logged in save your search in your profile and receive a daily email with new items that match the criteria in the search. The button to save your search you find at the end of the search-result.

Saved searches can be edited and removed when logged in on My Bukowskis - Saved searches.

How do I bid?

To participate on our online auctions, you must first register as our customer here and accept our General terms. This takes only couple of minutes.
You must log in to place bids if you already have registered as a customer. Please note, that all bids are binding.

  • Place your maximum bid by writing the amount into the "Bid" field to the right on the item page. Then click the "Place bid" button. Please confirm your bid after double-checking the amount, currency and the location of the item.

Our maximum bid service will bid for you, placing the lowest necessary bid at every time, up to your maximum bid amount. Read more about bidding service.

  • You should now see a confirmation that your bid has been placed and if you lead the auction or not. You can immediately place a new bid, if your bid is not the leading bid or the reserve price is not met.

  • The ending time is extended by 3 minutes if a bid is placed when it is less than 60 seconds left of the auction. E.g. if you bid with 30 seconds remaining, the auction is extended so that 3 minutes and 30 seconds remain. This gives everyone the chance to place their bids.

How do maximum bids and automatic bidding service work?

Often the bidding-war starts at the very last minutes of an auction. If you place a maximum bid you never need to worry about missing out on an interesting item. The automatic bidding service will only bid exactly the amount needed to win the auction, up to your maximum bid.

This is how it works:

  • Enter the maximum bid you are willing to place for the item in question. If you place a bid higher than the lowest possible according to bid increment the maximum bid service is automatically activated.

  • In case your maximum bid would be outbid by another bidder, we will let you know by email. You can then choose to place a new bid.

  • If two bidders place a maximum bid on the same amount, the first bid registered will win auction.

  • Should your maximum bid be the same as or lower than the reserve price your maximum bid will be placed at once. The maximum bid service is trying to win the auction and must exceed the reserve price in order to do so.

  • A maximum bid can be lowered to the next lowest bid-increment allowed. The leading bid will not be affected.

What happens if I am outbid?

If someone places a higher bid than yours you will receive an e-mail informing you of the new highest bid.

Remember you can place a higher maximum bid early and increase your chances to win.

Where can i find you shipping terms?

Before ordering a transport you need to accept the General Terms and Conditions for the Supply of Transport Services, these can be found when ordering. The shipping terms can also be found here.

What is the estimated delivery time?

The delivery time between our auction houses is up to about 3 weeks.
An item sent as a parcel is delivered to agents 1-5 business days after it has left our auction house.
Larger items for home delivery are delivered at the time agreed upon by you and the transport partner. Expect a delivery time of about 15 business days for items bought in and delivered to an address in the same city.

Can I cancel my transport?

No, as soon the transport is ordered we start processing.

Why am I unable to order transport?

Probably it was decided that no transport was possible due to size, condition or some other feature of the item.
For insurance reasons we are also unable to offer standard transport on items worth over SEK 100 000.

Otherwise standard transport can be ordered in My Bukowskis.

I want to change delivery address, how I do?

The delivery address cannot be changed after the transport has been ordered.

Can i have someone else receive/collect my delivery?

Yes, the person receiving/collecting need both your and own id.

Where is my item now?

At My Bukowskis you can track your parcels.
Ordered transports on larger home delivieries are kept at Bukowskis until delivery is made.

I haven’t received my delivery, what has happened?

There can be different reasons for this. Check My Bukowskis if it is a parcel for tracking information.

Why haven’t delivery of my item begun?

Transport begin as soon as we receive payment for the transport.

My parcel was returned when I didn’t collect it. Where is my item now and can I order another delivery?

The parcel was returned to the sending Bukowskis Market office. Any fees for the return will be charged to you by invoice.
We are unable to offer to transport the item for you again at this time.

The item is damaged. How do I return it?

According to our terms The Customer shall, in immediate connection with the collection or the receipt of the Item, carefully inspect the Item in order to verify that the Item is not damaged. Upon collection of the Item from Bukowskis or a third party the Customer shall carefully inspect that the packaging/wrapping is intact and without any damages. Damages and defects shall be noted on the consignment note provided by the external carrier or collection/delivery point.

Do businesses have extended credit on the transport invoice?

No.

Can I have several items/lots delivered together?

Combined shipping of items not a service we are able to offer.

There were items missing in my delivery, what do I do?

Do you deliver outside of Sweden and Finland?

Presently we only deliver in Sweden and Finland.

Can I use another transport company?

You can use any company you want to. Make sure we have received payment on all invoices and that there are no outstanding storage fees.

Do you send items by mail?

No, we use Bring for all parcels. They deliver to a pickup up point and you get notified by SMS when the item has arrived.

Can I buy an item for payment on delivery?

No.

What are the size and weight restrictions for home delivery?

Parcels can weigh no more than 20 kg or be larger than 0,25 m³. Larger home deliveries can be up to 3 m³.
Due to other considerations such as the condition of an item it might be considered unsuitable for transport.

We do not handle packaging and packing of objects to be sent by other carriers because of the risk of damages. We recommend that you order immediately after you win an auction. That way you can avoid possible storage-fees.
Ordered transport will be handled after we have received the payments for the item and transport.
You can also organize transport through an extern transport company. Please note that Bukowskis Market does not handle packaging of items sent by other carriers.

How can I see if my item has arrived after transport ?

Transport between auction houses:
The delivery time between our auction houses is up to about 3 weeks. We notify you by e-mail when item is in destination at our pickup-point.

An item which is sent as a parcel to agents in Sweden and Finland:
An item sent as a parcel is delivered to agents about 1-5 business days after it has left the auction house.
At My Bukowskis you can track your parcels. Ordered transports on larger home delivieries are kept at Bukowskis until delivery is made.

Home delivery in Sweden and Finland :
Larger items for home delivery are delivered at the agreed upon time. Expect a delivery time of about 5 business
days for items bought in and delivered to an address in the same city. You receive sms when the item has arrived.

Can someone else collect my item at a Bukowskis Market office?

Absolutely.

The person that collects your item needs to have the invoice-number (and item number) as reference.

Auction terms

What are the storage days?
  • Storage days mean the days Bukowskis Market will store the item after you have won an auction. Every item has seven (7) free storage days.
  • The won item shall be collected within seven (7) calendar days after an auction.
  • If the item is not collected in accordance to the terms and conditions, Bukowskis is entitled to charge a storage fee according to our price list.
What is an estimate?

The estimate is a market valuation of the object before the auction set by our inhouse specialists and shall only serve as a guide for the buyer.

The price at which an object is eventually sold can substantially differ from the estimate price.

What is a reserve bid?

A reserve price is a hidden minimum price under which the seller will not sell the item. Bukowskis Market
accepts bids below the reserve bid, but they won't be winning bids.

The reserve price does usually never exceed 80% of the estimate
and cannot be lower than 300 SEK / 30 €, that is our starting bid.

This relation between the reserve price and the estimated price does not apply when selling jewelry, wrist watches and pocket watches, and the reserve price is set together with an appraiser or a specialist regarding this type of items.

What is a maximum bid?

Usually the bidding on an item takes off in the last few minutes. If you place a maximum bid you never have to worry that you will forget to bid later. You only bid as much as it takes for you to win the auction, up to your maximum bid.

This is how it works:

  • Enter your maximum bid, the highest amount you are willing to pay, even if it's much more than the starting bid or the current highest bid.

  • Our maximum bid service will bid for you, placing the smallest necessary bid at every time, up to your maximum bid amount.

  • If there are no other bids, your bid will match the starting bid.

  • If the item has a reserve price and your maximum bid is below it, your bid will be the same amount as your maximum bid. If your maximum bid is above the reserve price, your bid will be the same amount as the reserve price.

  • As long as no one bids against you, your bid will remain unchanged.

  • If you're outbid, the bid service will place another bid according to our bid increment, as long as this doesn't exceed your maximum bid. The new bid is always the lowest necessary for you to win the auction.

  • If someone bids over your maximum bid you will immediately receive an email notification. You can then place a new maximum bid.

    You can increase your maximum bid at any time, even when you have the highest bid, to ensure no one outbids you at the last minute.

    A maximum bid can be lowered to the next lowest bid-increment allowed. The bid already placed is not affected.

  • If two bidders place the same maximum bid, the earlier bid wins.

What is resale right (Droit de suite)?

Droit de suite is a right granted to artists or their heirs, in some jurisdictions, to receive a fee on the resale of their works of art. By law, the buyer pays an artist fee for certain works of art. This fee is 5% of the hammer price, or less.
