More information

The shape of the jewellery is inspired by the rococo style's girandole earrings’ button that attaches the earring to the ear. Later in the 18th century, the button began to be used alone as both earrings and rings. These buttons consisted of a cluster of small stones with a larger stone in the middle to give the expression of a larger stone. This technique was also used to create a more dramatic expression. Catherine the Great (1729–1796), who was the Empress of Russia 1762–1796, used these types of earrings which can be seen in paintings of her. The earrings/ring for sale are inspired by this and have therefore been named "Catherine the Great".
