This season’s Contemporary sale offered high-quality photography, Swedish masterpieces and a much talked about sculpture by Bjarne Melgaard.
"It is notable that collectors have a great interest in what we call classic contemporary with interesting provenance. I would like to especially mention Ola Billgren's "Procession", purchased at Galleri Karlsson in 1966, from the break through exhibition of his photo-realistic imagery and international objects such as “Edition Mat” and “Christo” also from the 1960´s”, says specialist Lena Nytén.
Ola Billgren was represented with several significant works, both historically and politically, all of which were sold at high prices. Ola Billgren's "Målning" became one of the auctions absolute highlights with a final price of 1,515,650 SEK.
"It is great to see that there is a high interest in Swedish classical photography. The amazing photographs "Red Light, Stockholm" by Lennart Olsson and Christer Strömholms' "Bleka damen i Barcelona" both sold at high prices", says specialist Karin Aringer.
Andy Warhol’s complete portfolio of three colour series charts titled "Three Portraits of Ingrid Bergman”, offered intensive bidding during the evening and shows his never ending appeal to the market. International superstars like Christo and Donald Baechler also received great attention.
Four characteristic works by Marie-Louise Ekman, with an upcoming major solo exhibition at the Modern Museum this summer, were the evening's feminist commentary together with Gittan Jönsson, Lena Svedberg and Maria Friberg.
