Vibrant auction market for the pioneers of Modernism

Swedish Grace more sought after than ever!

The Modern Art + Design sale featured unique objects from some of the early 20th century's most prominent designers, such as Axel Einar Hjorth, Folke Bensow, Axel Salto and Estrid Ericson. The interest in Nordic design and works of art is still strong and Bukowskis presents impressive results for some of the most appreciated designers of today.

Two cast iron stools from Folke Bensow, sold for 245 000 SEK, symbolize the auction's high quality and curated selection.

- It is gratifying that the interest in our Swedish pioneers, many represented at the Paris Exhibition in 1925, are still so sought after internationally. Bukowskis is proud to achieve the highest prices in this segment for many years in a row now, says Eva Seeman, head specialist design and 20th Century works of art departement.

The auction also contained additional rarities such as Sture Lindholms detailed bar cabinet from 1934 and a unique special made patterned yellow carpet designed by Marin Hemmingsson for Märta Måås-Fjetterström AB, both strong examples in an extraordinary auction.

A magnificent selection of ceramics and glass became some of the real highlights of the auction, next to Josef Frank's internationally acclaimed Flora cabinet, which after intensive bidding accieved a final price of 490 000 SEK.

- The Royal Copenhagen spherical vase "knoppande stil" was sold for an incredible 397 750 SEK, reflecting the enormous interest of Axel Salto and his design, says Camilla Behrer, specialist design and modern craftsmanship.

The colourful carpet "Park röd, Korsnäs" by Barbro Nilsson was sold for 420 750 SEK and "Gula Havet" by Marianne Richter for 586 500 SEK, both magnificent sales at a high international level.

- Bukowskis is the leading Scandinavian auction house for Swedish carpets and the segment is characterized by collectibles from our leading textile artists. Today's auction offered both excitement and an outstanding range of carpet, says Anette Granlund, responsible specialist carpets, textiles and Islamic crafts.
