Equus – Classic Beauty and Lively Wildness

Photo Exhibition at Bukowskis: Eva Törnqvist

Viewing: February 20–23rd at Bukowskis, Berzelii Park 1. Open 11–17. Fixed prices on all pieces.

Eva Törnqvist possessed her first camera when she turned eight and ever since she has been taking photographs. Looking at pictures and creating pictures has always been important to her regardless if its drawing, painting or taking photographs. Animal's wild and domestic force, as well as nature in general, have always stayed close to her heart, and its within nature she captures most of her subjects. Today Eva Törnqvist lives in Switzerland and she has been exhibiting her photographs both in Geneva and in Stockholm.

– In a collection of black and white portraits, I have been trying to capture the beauty and character of the Frieser stallon Tsjalle. The Frieser horse is a breed from the north part of the Netherlands, which today is used as a roadster and saddle horse. Its a very large horse that is always black. These kind of horses have got a lot of mane and a thick horsetail, especially on the stallions since they let the mane grow very long. When I met Tsjalle in Holland in 2016 and 2017 I was captured by his expressive and beautiful chiseled head, his enormous hair flow and his lively movements.

– In my pictures I want to show the tension between the head’s classical beauty and the mane’s wildness, in a combination of a sensual softness in the movements and the overall tough attitude. I also wanted to picture the graphic purity in the head against the light sky.
