"This auction season has set off wonderfully for Bukowskis and Modern Master Helsinki is packed with exceptional pieces of design and art by moder Finnish designers and artists", says Laura Pohjola, art specialist.
One of the absolute highlights of the auction is an impressive painting by Reidar Särestöniemi. The painting was made for a relative of Särestöniemi's in Norway in the 1970s. The work returned to Finland in the 1990s and has been with the same owner since then. This work, together with others by Kain Tapper, Rafael Wardi, Kimmo Kaivanto and Ole Kandelin, represent a selection of the masterpieces in the current auction.
"I'm thrilled that the auction also includes an impressive work by the Mystic of Lapland, the almost shamanic Reidar Särestöniemi. The work is breath-taking, it has layers of colours and life and perhaps most importantly an almost dizzying effect on the viewer. Särestöniemi is popular both at home and internationella - his art is just that unique", says Johanna Lindfors, art specialist.
A magnificent lamp by Paavo Tynell is expected to be a big hit. The auction includes an exceptional collection of design by famous Finnish designers such as Tapio Wirkkala, Alvar Aalto, and Lisa Johansson-Pape. Ceramic and designer glass are two of the categories that are more popular than ever before, which can be seen in the quality and number of remarkable pieces for sale.
"It feels fantastic to be able to present the exceptionally high quality of Finnish design in this Modern Masters. I'm thinking especially of the lamp by Paavo Tynell and the wonderful collection of glass sculptures by Timo Sarpaneva", says Anna Rosenius, design specialist.
"This auction includes a fantastic department for jewellery and the highlights include some unique pieces by Mirjam Salminen. Mirjam Salminen worked as a designer for Kaunis Koru in the 1950s. Her jewellery is modern with a Scandinavian style. Her jewellery is rarely for sale and these pieces are exquisite examples of her production", says Nina Westerlund, specialist for jewellery.
