First day of Modern Masters Helsinki – Reidar Särestöniemi’s impressive artwork was sold for a final price of 67 027 €!

Modern Masters Helsinki is in full swing and the auction’s first day offered several works by Finnish masters, such as Reidar Särestöniemi, Kain Tapper, Alvar Aalto and Paavo Tynell. The top lot of the evening was Reidar Särestöniemi’s impressive and personal artwork that reached an amazing final price of 67 027 €. The painting was made for a relative of Särestöniemi's in Norway in the 1970s. The work returned to Finland in the 1990s and has been with the same owner since then. Särestöniemi is known for his colourful and abstract paintings and this particular artwork is a great example of his appreciated style.

"We are extremely delighted that Särestöniemi's unique painting reached such an amazing final price. Our task is to match amazing artworks with the right buyers, and I am happy that we once again succeeded in this. The quality of the artwork is still the most important thing and at the moment there is an exceptionally high amount of amazing works on the market", says Johanna Lindfors, specialist of art.

After the first day we can also note that there is an increasing demand for Finnish modern design. Alvar Aalto’s Paimio armchair was sold for an amazing final price of 21 777 €, Paavo Tynell’s table lamp was reached a final price of 15 317 € and Michael Schilkin’s sculpture was sold for 21 380 €.
