Selected Classics Helsinki offered exquisite artworks, unique jewellery and a collection of rarely seen Russian swords and highly sought after collectibles. The top lot of the auction was Albert Edelfelts ”Au Bois de Boulogne” painting that sold for a fantastic final price of 220 493 €.
”Au Bois de Boulogne” is one of Edelfelt’s most loved and well-known paintings and I am extremely happy that we had the opportunity to sell this exquisite work here at Bukowskis. It was intensely exciting to follow how the bidders battled for the artwork. The painting is truly unique – Edelfelt’s ”Au Bois de Boulogne” is definitely a painting that I will always treasure, says Johanna Lindfors, specialist art.
Konrad Mägi’s watercolour from 1906 more that doubled its estimate, reaching a final price of 23 524 €. Other notable highlights included Helene Schjerfbeck’s ”Young girl” painting that reached a final price of 67 376 € and a 19th century chandelier that was sold for 12 499 €, more than four times the estimate.
Works by Jussi Mäntynen were highly popular. The auction presented six sculptures by Mäntynen, out of which the majority reached above-estimate results. The auction also presented a selection of sought after Russian porcelain and ceramics from the 19th and 20th centuries that reached exceptional prices. The highlight of this section was a Russian Kuznetsov bisque porcelain figurine that was sold for 5 161 €.
The Russian artwork section attracted international buyers. Konstantin Ivanovich Gorbatov’s striking painting reached an amazing final price of 67 621 €, Constantine Korovine’s oil painting was sold for 42 878 € and Julius Von Klever’s painting reached a final price of 41 898 €. A collection of rarely seen Russian swords and highly sought after collectibles attracted collectors from around the world. The top lot of the section was an imperial Russian officer's sabre that reached a final price of 18 869 €.
The results show that there is a demand for imperial Russian collectibles. It was exceptionally delightful that the imperial officer's sabre reached a final price that was more than five times the estimate, says Thomas Luoma, specialist militaria.
