Five quick questions to our experts

Prior to this fall’s major hammer auction within modern design, we have asked Bukowskis’ modern design specialists Eva Seeman, Camilla Behrer and Jonatan Jahn about which objects that are trending at the moment. Here you can get an exclusive insight about art works that will be up for sale on Modern Art + Design on November 21st – and you can also find out what we are seeking just a couple of weeks before the final consignments.

Which designers are you extra excited about in this fall’s auction?
If we have to choose among the furniture designers we would say; Anna Petrus, Sven-Erik Skawonius, Danish designer Børge Mogensen – and as always, Josef Frank.

Ceramics and glass are sought-after from our customers, why is it so demanded?
Traditionally these are strong collector’s fields, both in Sweden and internationally. It is also very thankful to decorate with.

Which objects are extra interesting on this fall’s Modern Art + Design?
Anna Petrus' reliefs in cast-iron which belongs to a table from Näfveqvarns Bruk which were exhibited at Metropolitan Museum in New York 1927. Most likely only three of these monumental tables have been executed and one of them has later been displayed at the Stockholm Exhibition in 1930 and it has – until today – been forgotten. Also Sven-Erik Skawonius drawer from the World Exhibition in Paris 1937 is very interesting. The expression called Swedish Modern was adapted after the Paris in 1938 and the drawer shows just precisely the style, a more gentle shape of modernism. When it comes to the glass department the engraved bowl called Bacchus by Simon Gates for Orrefors is breath-taking – it took more than 300 hours to engrave this fully decorated bowl. The model was exhibited at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1925. We also have a beautiful Josef Frank ”Flora” cabinet in an exceptional good condition, a sculpture by Hans Hedberg in the shape of grapes in an impressive size and it has a lovely glaze, along with a collection of rare and interesting silver objects from Georg Jensen where you among many things can find a chocolate jug, which was produced during the years Georg Jensen was Georg Jensen was working in his own studio in Paris between 1925-26.

Which art works do you believe will be most talked-about on the this fall’s Modern Art + Design?
We are guessing the reliefs made by Anna Petrus or the lovely Skawonius chest of drawers.

With only a couple of week left for final consignments, are there any specific art works you would like to accept?
Ceramics by Axel Salto, Wilhelm Kåge, Berndt Friberg, Stig Lindberg and we would love to see some faience by Pablo Picasso from his workshop in Madoura, France. Also glass, such as Italian glass from Venini and Orrefors’ major names like Gate, Hald, Edvin Öhrström and Vicke Lindstrand and many more.
