New season – New highlights: Peter Weiss 'Villa Mia'

Consignments for the autumn auctions is going on. We can already now present some highlights that will be included in the autumn's quality auctions.

Let us introduce Peter Weiss 'Villa Mia'
The work 'Villa Mia' is largely a fantasy city originating in Lugano. A painting in which Peter Weiss was influenced by Pieter Brueghel and Hieronymus Bosch.

In the mid-1930s, Weiss lived in London and corresponded with the Swiss author Hermann Hesse, who commissioned him to illustrate for him. Weiss later lived with Hesse in Lugano, where Weiss borrowed a studio in exchange for illustrating Hesse's short stories. In his works, Weiss returned to various themes in his painting - lions, deserted places and self-portraits. The dramatic landscapes with the desolate places may symbolize human vulnerability in different situations.

The work will be sold at Modern Art + Design 24 - 25 November Estimate 700,000 - 800,000 SEK
