Nonconformist Soviet Art – Hans Björkegrens’ collection

The term Soviet Nonconformist Art refers to Soviet art produced in the former Soviet Union from 1953 to 1986 (after the death of Joseph Stalin until the advent of Perestroika and Glasnost) outside of the rubric of Socialist Realism. Hans Björkegren (1933-2017) was a Swedish journalist and accomplished translator specializing in works by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn. Björkegren lived and worked in Moscow 1960-68. He became a collector of non-conformist art as he forged bonds and friendships in the cultural and liberal circles of Moscow life.
