A pair of 'E60' stools by Alvar Aalto, Artek.
The iconic Stool 60 was designed 1933 by the architect and designer Alvar Aalto for the Finnish furniture company Artek. The stool represents the core of functional design, equally suitable as a seat, a table, storage unit or a display surface. The original stool is entirely made of birch, but over the years the model has been developed in a wide variety of colours and finishes. The stool’s simple shape and clean lines seem to be the secret behind the furniture’s success, several million units of Stool 60 and its four-legged cousin, Stool E60, have been sold, making it one of the most cherished products in the history of design. The slightly bent legs that are mounted directly to the underside of the round seat have become Aalto’s signum and are seen in several of his designs. Stool 60 is the perfect all-in-all stool with an excellent design and shape.
The stools comes in veneered birch and lacquered seats.
