We have spoken with Jonatan Jahn, specialist Design and 20th-21st Century Works of Art, who has chosen his favourites in the online auction Claesson Koivisto Rune In Japan.
– Claesson Koivisto Rune's admiration and respect for their Japanese colleagues, the producers, and the unique Japanese culture are evident and easy to understand when perceiving the care of which the different objects have been designed and executed. The exhibition, the catalogue and the auction will is an inspiring journey for all our clients; it also invites you to get a glimpse of the perception of contemporary Swedish design in Japan. During this process, an even greater fascination for Japan has flourished. We have encountered this project with great interest. It has been more than enjoyable to delve into these items, but most inspiring has been spending time with Mårten, Ola and Eero, listening to their beautiful stories about their travels to Japan and the many award-winning projects, says Jonatan Jahn.
Claesson Koivisto Rune, “Takete”, armchair, Time & Style, Japan, 2018.
Takete was inspired by one of my favourite armchairs, the Flag Halyard Chair by Hans J. Wegner. With its generous volume, the armchair is typical for Claesson Koivisto Runes minimalistic esthetic with clean lines without excessive details. The armchair is like a black Stelth aeroplane but still has the ability to be seen and fill out the room it occupies.

Claesson Koivisto Rune, "Hand", table, Sasimonokagu Takahashi, Japan 2019.
This table is a dream to look at and use. Master joiner Sasimonokagu Takashi crafted the table in an incredible quality that highlights the status of the Japanese tradition of craftsmanship! The tables slightly convex table top has been planned to perfection, without the use of sandpaper. The dinner table is part of a dining set with a bench and two stools that have only been made in one other copy. This set was exclusively made for this auction.

Claesson Koivisto Rune, "Aimai No 6" C-print, edition 2/5, 2021.
Claesson Koivisto Rune have for this project created graphics with abstract motifs from the items in the catalogue. This is my favourite motif and colouration, which makes the mind wander towards masters like Mark Rothko, Donald Judd and Richard Serra. The series is named Aimai that means vague or fleeting in Japanese, which Claesson Koivisto Rune has captured in the pictures.

Claesson Koivisto Rune, "K5 City Bike", Tokyo Bike, Japan 2020.
As a true bike fanatic, it’s a pleasure to handle this custom made city racer! Only four have been manufactured, and three of them are at the hotel K5 in Tokyo, which Claesson Koivisto Rune has designed. The quality and feel of the details are of the highest class, and it is a great bike to ride! “K5 City Bike” is an excellent example of the Japanese tradition as a high-tech nation and their ability to develop the worlds foremost components for all types of vehicles and industries.

Claesson Koivisto Rune, "Objet d’Art, N°2", a bookstand, Time & Style, Japan, 2018.
This object was the first I saw as an example of Claesson Koivisto Runes Japanese production, and I fell in love straight away. The book cradle is crafted of Japanese oak from the Hokkaido area. The execution is of the highest quality with carefully considered details and intelligent construction
