The Rolex GMT-Master II reference 16710 is a beloved classic among collectors. Introduced in the late 1980s and produced until the mid-2000s, the 16710 represents a transitional era in Rolex’s history—where vintage charm meets modern reliability. The nickname “Coke” refers to the striking black and red aluminum bezel insert, reminiscent of the Coca-Cola color palette. This variant stands out among the GMT family, which also includes the “Pepsi” (red and blue) and “Root Beer” (brown and gold) versions. While Rolex never officially named these bezels, the nicknames have become part of the enthusiast vocabulary. Early examples of the 16710 have lug holes and tritium dials, marked with “T<25” at 6 o’clock, indicating the use of tritium for luminescence.
Today, the 16710 “Coke” is no longer in production, and Rolex has yet to reintroduce the red and black bezel in its modern lineup.
