This Heuer ref. 980.006 belongs to the brand’s earliest generation of dedicated dive watches, a line that emerged at the end of the 1970s and would later develop into the highly successful 1000 series. Powered by the quartz caliber ESA 536.121, the reference is part of the early 980.0XX family.
What sets the present watch apart is its unusual Poseidon-signed dial, replacing the standard Heuer shield with the emblem of the historic Swedish diving equipment manufacturer Poseidon. Founded in 1958, Poseidon became one of Scandinavia’s best-known names in diving, associated with technical innovation in regulators, dry suits and equipment for both recreational and professional use. Against that backdrop, the present watch stands as a particularly appealing intersection of Heuer’s early dive-watch design and Scandinavian diving history. Adding further distinction, the dial is printed “Professionel” rather than the more commonly seen “Professional”.
To the best of our knowledge, fewer than a handful of Poseidon-signed Heuer ref. 980.006 watches have surfaced publicly to date.
