"Den svenska näktergalen", sopranen Jenny Lind, utnämndes 1840 till hovsångerska av kronprins Oscar. År 1840 invaldes hon också som ledamot av Kungliga Musikaliska Akademien.
Hon reste världen runt på hyllade större konsertresor till bland annat Danmark, Finland, Tyskland, Holland, Storbritannien och Irland men hennes stora genombrott var i USA där hon anlitats av P.T. Barnum. Bland hennes beundrare hörde drottning Viktoria som ska ha förärat henne med ett smycke föreställande en näktergal.

were added to the funds of the charity
and a solid foundation laid for completing the fabric
the unfinished condition of which had encited
her generous sympathy
