The present dish is a masterful example of Yongzheng (1722–1735) famille rose export porcelain, combining refined artistry with layered auspicious symbolism. It embodies Confucian ideals of family harmony: the seated lady represents cultivated gentility and virtuous motherhood, while the child signify the wish for prosperous heirs. The individual elements carry additional meaning, the ruyi sceptre held by the boy symbolizes the fulfillment of wishes and a successful official career. The antiques depicted in the background attest to the family’s scholarship, wealth, and cultural sophistication.
The dish exemplifies Yongzheng’s exquisite taste through its nuanced use of pinks and pastel shades, achieving an extremely delicate and refined palette. The vibrant ruby-red enamel on the back further highlights the technical mastery and aesthetic sophistication of the period.
