Motivet är en av Hammarskiölds första bilder med grafiskt uttryck. Den gjordes till utställningen "Unga fotografer 1 och 2", delvis som en protest mot de oskrivna regler som då styrde fotografin - där det krävdes att fotografi tvunget skulle innehålla hela gråskalan mellan vitt och svart.
