More information

Rolex Cosmograph Daytona is probably the most well-known and iconic model within the world of watches. The name Daytona derives from the fact that Rolex in the ’60s became the official timekeeper for Daytona International Speedway, an equally iconic race track in Florida, USA.

In 1963, the first Rolex Cosmograph was presented, a model specifically developed for the motorsport world where speeds could be calculated using the chronograph function and the tachymeter scale. It was not called Daytona initially. The fact is that Rolex originally used the name Le Mans in some ads before finally choosing the now legendary name Daytona for the Cosmograph series.

Its history is usually divided into different eras where the manual chronographs are considered the first generation. These were manufactured in several different model series from 1963 until 1988 and today belong to the most in-demand models in the watch world.

Rolex Cosmograph Daytona reference 6241 is a manual chronograph manufactured between about 1966-1969. Production is relatively low, and it is estimated that the total number of watches manufactured is less than 3,000. The auction’s Rolex Cosmograph Daytona reference 6241 stands out with a case in excellent condition, a beautiful bakelite bezel and an unusual and flawless dial with the text “Daytona” in light blue.
