A massive blue and white jardiniere, Qing dynasty with Daouguang seal mark.

The well-potted body with deep rounded sides rising from a slightly recessed base, the exterior painted in vibrant and rich cobalt-blue tone. Decorated around the exterior with two five-clawed dragons reaching for 'flaming pearls' amidst cloud formations, all above tempestuous intricately decorated foaming waves. By the rim a band of ruyi-heads. The base inscribed with sealmark that reads 'Da Qing Daoguang nian zhi (‘Made in the reign of the Daoguang emperor of the Great Qing’). Diameter by inner rim 28.5 cm. Diameter widest part 50 cm. Height 34 cm.
