Axel Herman Hägg, dubbed "The Piranesi of the Gothic Revival" after Italian artist and architect Giovanni Battista Piranesi, was the Swedish shipwright who moved to England and became a successful artist in the end of 1800s. His etchings of Gothic Revival buildings made him famous, and for some time Swedish painter Anders Zorn studied etching for Hägg. Our theme auction 'Axel Herman Hägg - The Piranesi of the Gothic Revival' feature a great number of etchings made by Hägg from the 1880s and up until the 1910s.
