Thea Ekström started as cirkus artist, ballet dancer, singer, pianist and factory worker. It was not until later, in the 50s, she started study for Bror Hjorth and Oscar Reutersvärd at the Academy of Arts. Through the artist and art historian Ragnar von Holten she learned about the French surrealism and later exhibited in Paris.
Thea Ekström's works on lacqured masonite are filled with signs, reminding of hieroglyphs, where the thin line is carrying the message. The colours are pale, almost like faded by the sun.
This theme auction features 19 works by the artist from J P Willborg's collection.
