Danish style icons – from Jacobsen to Panton

In this themed auction, Bukowskis presents a curated selection of items that can all be described as "Danish style icons". Modern Danish design is well known worldwide and is as sought after today as it was over half a century ago. Some of its distinctive features are natural materials, clean lines and the interplay between form and function.

The auction includes the classics "Svanen", "Myran", "Ägget", and "Sjuan", designed by Arne Jacobsen (1902-1971). Jacobsen trained as an architect between 1924 and 1927 and set up his own architectural practice in 1930. His central concern was that interior design and architecture should complement and interact with each other. Several other prominent Danish designers began their careers with Jacobsen, including Hans J. Wegner (1914-2007) and Verner Panton (1926-1998).

Panton's designs represent a different direction in Danish design regarding form and materials. It is characterised by playfulness and the use of bright colours and plastics. Among his most famous creations are the "Panton Chair" and the "VP Globe" pendant, the second of which is included in this auction.

In addition to the "VP Globe", the lighting category also includes several classics by Poul Henningsen (1894-1967), including the iconic "PH Kotte/Artichoke" ceiling lamp and the "Bellevue AJ7" floor lamp from the 1930s/40s.

Danish design is home to several style icons, and we are pleased to present some of them in this themed auction. Feel free to explore the entire catalogue to be inspired and take part of it.
