More information

In this motif, the artist creates a dreamlike atmosphere. An image of the city by the water devoid of human life. The windowless facades of Skeppsbron form a silent backdrop to the steamboat slowly moving past. The wisps of smoke from the boat hanging in the air are the only trace of activity. No people or other signs of life are visible. The artist, otherwise known for his photorealistic cityscapes and landscapes, approaches impressionism in this momentary image.

Lennart Olausson was born in 1944 in Stockholm. He is a Swedish painter and graphic artist, trained at the Royal Institute of Art (1966-1971) and Konstfack (1961-1965) and is represented at Moderna Museet, Nationalmuseum and Statens Konstråd. He has made several public decorations, including at Danderyd Hospital in 1982, Serafens Vårdcentral in 1983-84, the Mariatorget metro station in 1984 and Nacka Hospital in 1985.
