Josef Frank with friends F389

In the 1930s, the founder of Svenskt Tenn, Estrid Ericson (1894-1981), initiated a successful collaboration with the Austrian architect and interior designer Josef Frank (1885-1967). The first significant exhibition of Frank's objects for Svenskt Tenn was held at Liljevalchs konsthall in 1934, where, among other things, the generous Liljevalchs sofa was shown for the first time. Josef Frank went on to create many true classics that elevated interiors in both homes and public institutions. He deeply impacted Swedish design history and is considered one of Sweden's most influential designers of all time today. Frank's furniture and interior objects have become icons that always remain in style.

In connection with Svenskt Tenn's 100th anniversary 2024, Bukowskis presents an exceptionally curated selection of furniture and interior pieces in the first "Josef Frank with Friends" theme of the year, primarily featuring works by Josef Frank, as well as contributions from Björn Trägårdh, Anna Petrus, and others for Firma Svenskt Tenn.

Among the highlights are several of Josef Frank's most beloved models, including the so called "National Museum Cabinet", model 881, the "Liljevalchs Sofa," and a beautifully upholstered armchair, model 336, in Frank's popular linen fabric, "Manhattan". Additionally, there is a black so-called "Wellpapp” cabinet, model 2192, and a sought-after sideboard in white lacquer and walnut, model 2137, designed by Josef Frank in the 1950s.
