Galleri Glemminge, international influences in Skåne F411

Galleri Glemminge

In 1967, Rolf Dahlström established Galleri Glemminge outside Ystad and ran it for 32 years until he died in 1999. It became a cultural meeting place where several of the greatest artists of the 20th century exhibited their works, and the gallery is considered one of the most important for modern and contemporary art in Sweden today.

Rolf was born in 1927 in Karlstad and studied medicine in Lund and Gothenburg. He began his career as a writer, and in the first half of the 1960s, he wrote three books published by Bonnier. In 1964, Rolf discovered the enclosed courtyard Tegelbruksgården in Glemmingebro and bought it as a summer residence. Later, he decided to open his gallery there and also make it his permanent residence.

Rolf's first exhibition featured Gunnar Larsson, and despite the gallery's remote location, 300 guests attended the opening day. Just three years after its inauguration, he exhibited influential Swedish artists such as Ola Billgren, Oscar Reuterswärd, and Rune Jansson. With Billgren, Rolf held a total of eleven exhibitions during the gallery's 32-year existence.Read more
