Gottfrid Kallstenius F418

Gottfrid Kallstenius (Västervik 1861-1943 Storängen, Nacka) - the master depicter of Norra Tjustbygden

Gottfrid Kallstenius is today most known for his depictions of the Baltic Sea archipelago, almost exclusively drawn from the archipelago of Norra Tjust north of Västervik. His sunlit panoramic sea views, sunsets, and moonlit nights, often with a backdrop of cliffs and pine trees, have become his signature. His paintings within this motif, which he began working on around the turn of the century 1900 and continued well into the 1930s, achieved great popularity already during his lifetime. His breakthrough painting was the monumental work "Sunset with Pines," executed for the Kungl. Dramaten's foyer in 1907.
