The Finnish Sports Academy is also known as the Vierumäki Sports Academy. The building was designed by Erik Bryggman, who won an architectural competition in 1930. Bryggman also designed several other buildings on the area, including a lakeside sauna, a swimming pool and residential buildings. The Finnish Sports Academy was inaugurated in June 1937.
During the wars of 1939-1945, the main building served as a military hospital and the building was badly damaged. In 1947, the renovation of the main building began which continued into 1955. Erik Bryggman's daughter, the interior architect Carin Bryggman (1913-1991), was responsible for the interior design of the building and the armchairs now up for auction were part of the Vierumäki College's interior design, created by Carin Bryggman in the 1950s.
The model was exhibited for the first time at the 50th anniversary jubilee exhibition of the Finnish Society of Crafts and Design 1950.
