The specialist's choice – Jonatan Jahn shares his favourites from the upcoming sale

Specialist's choice Jonatan Jahn

We have spoken to Jonatan Jahn, Specialist Design and 20th-21st Century Works of Art about this spring's upcoming auction Contemporary Art & Design. He took the opportunity to highlight some of his personal favourites in the sale.
What can we look forward to in this spring's Contemporary Art & Design sale?
– There are many notable objects in this spring's Contemporary Art & Design. In this selection, I have focused on artists and designers who are relatively new to the auction market. These artists are influential as they shape our contemporary expression, which I find very exciting. It enriches my everyday life in the design industry. Tomorrow's design classics are being created at this moment. It is an inspiring journey to follow a designer's career and see how the ideas and objects take shape and develop. At this auction, you have an opportunity to refine your home with unique objects that reflects our time.
Feel free to look through our web catalogue and do not hesitate to stop by for a viewing. You can also email or call me, and we will find a time that suits you. Welcome!

Niklas Runesson "82A", coffee table, 2021

Niklas Runesson's furniture is like living sculptures with their organic design language. The objects created in his studio are unique as they are characterized by his personal expressions and made by Runesson himself. Runesson is a self-taught artisan and furniture carpenter who grew up in Småland. With a legacy of three generations of woodworkers / engineers who were active between 1945 and 2000, Runesson brings his legacy into the present.
Runesson creates his objects freely without sketching or drawing models. He usually has the measurements for his creations in his head and does the rest by heart. Runesson is inspired by nature, the unknown, and his imagination. A recurring theme in his artwork is the "friendly creature".

Magniberg "Horse", armchair, AB Eriksson & Söner, after 2016

""Horse" is an armchair that I appreciate for its obvious yet discrete references to works by designers such as Axel Einar Hjorth and Donald Judd. Its robust frame in pink lacquered pine and architectural profile makes it a solitaire that works both as a sculpture and armchair. Magniberg is a cross-genre brand based in Stockholm, Sweden, that mainly creates exclusive bedding. Following a career in the fashion industry, the founders Bengt Thornefors and Nina Norgren joined forces to find a new expression, and established Magniberg in 2016. The brand is imbued with cultural references, imagination and emotional aesthetics. It's all about craftsmanship, with an insistence on using only the best materials.

Björn Friborg, ”Implosion", 2019

######
Bjørn Friborg's "Implosion" has become one of my favourites in this spring's auction. Friborg is one of many talented glass designers who have challenged the standards for glass production and created their expression through the working process. His art has reached out internationally and will soon be presented to influential gallery owners. In Friborg's Implosion series, his unconventional techniques and the traditional craft meet to challenge the possibilities of glass in advanced and new ways. Friborg is a trained designer at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts Schools of Architecture and specializes in glass at Kosta Glasskola and Åfors Glasbruk. Friborg is also the director of Holmegaard Glasverkstad.

Fredrik Paulsen, "Röhsska", unique prototype, 2019

######
Fredrik Paulsen has become one of the most prominent Swedish designers of our time with his playful and shameless design. The chair "Röhsska" is one of his more famous and acclaimed works. The chair was designed in 2019, when the Röhsska Museum in Gothenburg planned a large solo exhibition with Paulsen. The exhibition's theme was interpreting the concept of democratic design, and one of the elements was to create a new chair for the exhibition. The result became the "Röhsska chair", which was exhibited at "Unmaking Democratic Design: Fredrik Paulsen". The auction chairs are the prototypes that were developed in collaboration with Blå Station, which today manufactures the chairs in series. These two chairs are prominent collectables. They were exhibited at Milan Design Week in 2019.
