New world record for the Josef Frank cabinet ”Plan de Paris à vol d’oiseau”

Sensational record prices for prestigious collections on the first day of the international Fine Art live auction Modern Art + Design.

New world record for the cabinet ”Plan de Paris à vol d'oiseau”, signed Josef Frank. The cabinet became the auction's most sensational sale with the final price of SEK 3,613,759.

– This spring’s design auction was Bukowskis’ most extensive ever, which attracted prominent collectors worldwide. There was particular interest in Josef Frank, which is reflected in the final price of SEK 3,613,759 for the magnificent cabinet ”Plan de Paris à vol d'oiseau”. A new world record for both the designer and Bukowskis, says Eva Seeman, Head Specialist Design and 20th-21st C Works of Art.

A great interest in Alva and Gunnar Myrdal’s collection

Bukowskis design department presented several rare pieces, including a collection of objects from Alva & Gunnar Myrdal’s home. A table by Uno Åhrén with a tabletop in pewter by Nils Fougstedt, a rare chest of drawers by Axel Einar Hjorth and an elegant armchair by Björn Trägårdh, to mention a few.

– We also saw excellent final prices for objects from the historic World Exhibition in Barcelona in 1929 along with objects from Alva & Gunnar Myrdal’s private home, which we were entrusted to sell in close collaboration with the family, continues Eva Seeman, Head Specialist Design and 20th-21st C Works of Art.

Carl-Axel Acking was one of the evening’s most shining stars with some very interesting objects. The highest final price was achieved by the floor lamp with a stem in wrapped leather and three brass shades, an excellent example of ”Swedish Modern” in its most exquisite form.

– The exceptional final price of SEK 955,000 for the two Finn Juhl armchairs shows that Bukowskis continues to reach out internationally. The price is a new world record for the model. Another record was achieved when a celadon green vase by Friberg became the most expensive Friberg vase ever sold at auction, which was very pleasing, says Camilla Behrer, Specialist Design and 20th Century Works of Art.

World’s most expensive Ikea furniture

The Ikea armchair ”Cavelli”, designed by Bengt Ruda 1958–59, was sold at the auction for SEK 190 000. The Cavelli model is the most expensive IKEA piece of furniture ever sold at auction. The armchair is extremely rare and, according to IKEA’s archives, has been manufactured in only 5 copies.

The auction's carpet department sold for of SEK 3,992,000, which shows a great interest in high-quality carpets.

– I am pleased that we have been able to present an increased range of Swedish carpets in this year's Modern Art + Design. Among the incredible highlights, we received the fantastic final price of SEK 250,000 for ”Örtagården”, by Märta Måås-Fjetterström, says Christopher Stålhandske, Head Specialist Carpets, textiles and Islamic works of art.
