Contemporary tree calf, a little stained and worn, insignificant wormtrail to upper margin of a few leaves. Title with a few annotations dated 1812 in ink and pencil, occasional neat marginal annotations by the same hand, in several cases on the plates. Extra blank leaf with handwritten dates of Thunberg’s and Sparrman’s journeys inserted after the preliminaries of part one; 4 extra leaves bound at end with annotations about the fauna of South Africa. With an extra engraved plate, ”The Deer of the Cape of Good Hope” from the Gentleman’s Magazine, 1767, and a drawing of a ”Camelopard”.
