Josef Frank with friends F336

For nearly 100 years, Scandinavian homes have been furnished with furniture and interior objects from the company Svenskt Tenn. These timeless objects were in high demand even when they were new on the market, as they contrasted in both form and colour with what was common during the 1920s and especially the 1930s.

In the 1930s, Estrid Ericson (1894-1981) initiated a successful collaboration with the Austrian architect and interior designer Josef Frank (1885-1967). The first significant exhibition of Frank's objects for Svenskt Tenn was held at Liljevalchs konsthall in 1934, where, among other things, the generous Liljevalchs sofa was shown for the first time. Josef Frank went on to create many true classics that elevated interiors in both homes and public institutions. He deeply impacted Swedish design history and is considered one of Sweden's most influential designers of all time today. Frank's furniture and interior objects have become icons that always remain in style. According to Josef Frank, "comfort and colourful richness" were guiding principles, and home was constantly evolving and never considered finished.

In this themed auction, we gathered many furniture, fixtures, and interior objects that Josef Frank and others designed for Svenskt Tenn. These items exemplify a timeless yet modern interior ideal.
