”Le Guetteur” – The lookout
Bukowskis presents Maurice Estève ”Le Guetteur” at the Modern Art + Design auction the 17th and 18th of May.
In 1913, Maurice Estève moved with his parents to Paris, where he soon began his artistic career. Whilst visiting the Louvre in the 1920s he was particularly impressed by old masters such as Jean Fouquet and Paolo Uccello, but also by some of the pioneers of modernity, such as Paul Cèzanne, Fernand Legér and Georges Braque. Estève was mostly self-taught and only ever participated (in 1924) in the free teaching at the Acadèmie Colarossi.
