Johan Gustaf Wäström (Waeström) was born in 1750 - or 1760 probably in Landskrona in Sweden. According to reports, he was educated in Copenhagen by the artist Jens Juel. He travelled to Stralsund and for a long time ha was living in Berlin where he came in 1788. Of his paintings only fifteen portraits is known, dated between the years 1780 and 1807.
