A dry gilt lacquered figure of buddha, Ming dynasty (1368-1644).
The figure is shown seated in padmasana with right hand raised in vitarka mudra, the left hand held in dhyana mudra. The figure is wearing loose robes draped with a shawl that falls in graceful folds around the body, and is open at the chest to reveal an elaborate beaded necklace above a sash tied in a bow at the waist. The broad face is molded with gentle expression. Height 30 cm.
Wear to gilding. Fingers broken off.
