Muut tiedot

"Autumn evening (Nevlunghavn)" was produced in the latter part of Sohlberg’s life when he often found his subjects in Oslo or its surrounding area. As is often the case, Sohlberg’s landscape is calm, verging on meditative, where the lack of human presence is tangible. Blue tones dominate the palette and the artist strives to emphasize the feeling of depth in the visual space. Sohlberg’s landscapes are often characterised by the artist creating a contrast between the near foreground and the distant background where there appears to be no space in between. This effect has been interpreted as a deliberate contrast effect between a human microcosmos with all its detail and a divine macrocosmos in all its endlessness.
