An embroidered chinese silk robe, Qing dynasty, circa 1900.

Embroidered with five clawed dragons chasing the flaming pearl above fierce waves this against a maroon background. No lining. Length of back 95 cm. Width lying flat from arm to arm 170 cm. Width lower hem lying flat 79 cm.

Wear, loose threads, stains.

Alkuperä - Provenienssi

Purchased by Astrid (born von Platen 1893-1982) and Nils Rudebeck (1877-1964) on their trip to China in 1926 with crown prince Gustav Adolf, later King Gustav VI Adolf. Thence by descent.

Nils Rudebeck was Marshal of the Court to to Gustaf Adolf and Astrid Rudebeck were a close friend to his wife Louis Mountbatten so they came to accompany the couple on their around the world trip where China was an important stop to the Swedish Crown Prince since his great interest in the Chinese Culture. He later on founded the famous "China Club" in Sweden in 1929. Astrid Rudebeck was the daughter of the great collector of Chinese antiques hovstallmästare Carl Gustaf von Platen.
