Contemporary Art & Design 635

The extensive catalogue for this autumn's Contemporary Art & Design auction includes everything from international contemporary art, graphics and photography to sought-after design objects.

We can present unique work by the highly current Christo & Jeanne-Claude, "Store Front (Project)" from 1964. The work comes from the legendary gallery owner William Aronowitsch, who exhibited Christo and Jeanne-Claude several times in Stockholm during the '70s. Bukowskis viewing will partly recreate the exhibition from 1974 with the help of a couple of the works that showed at the same time. Bukowskis can also present significant works by Tom Wesselmann, Karin Mamma Andersson and Jan Håfström. See also a significant collection of international prints with names such as Warhol, Banksy and Lichtenstein, and four works by Nathalie Djurberg & Hans Berg in the form of two sculptures and two films.

The photography department contains both conceptual and classic documentary photography. We can mention Wim Wenders and Annie Leibovitz as well as the American photographer Diane Arbus and her portrait "Woman with a Veil on Fifth Avenue, N.Y.C 1968". Diane Arbus is one of the leading figures in the American black and white photo tradition. She sought her motives among those living on the brink of social acceptance, such as prostitutes, transvestites, refugees and eccentrics. The most famous pictures are from the 1950s and 60s, just like the auction's exciting photography. This autumn's auction also includes an extensive collection of portraits by Terry O'Neill, whose portraits of Faye Dunaway, Amy Winehouse and Audrey Hepburn are all iconic, as well as works by Swedish photographers such as Maria Friberg, Christer Strömholm and Miriam Bäckström.

Unique to this autumn auction is that we can present a larger collection of furniture from the 1970s, which is highlighted especially in the catalogue and the viewing. This era is a very eventful period in Swedish furniture history that changed how we relate to furniture as functional objects and sculptures. The possibilities were considered endless, and the conditions for furniture designers, manufacturers and shops changed fundamentally at the same time as Swedish homes were decorated like never before. In addition to this collection, an eclectic mix of international and Swedish design from famous designers such as Lindsey Adelman, Mark Brazier Jones, Frank Gehry, Jonas Bohlin, Mats Theselius and Lotta Lampa is present.
