Villa Tallbacken
Signed R. Thegerström and dated 1915. Oil on canvas, 73 x 60 cm.
In 1892, Robert Thegerström asked his friend Ferdinand Boberg if he would design a villa for him and his family in the new villa suburb of Djursholm, north of Stockholm. The building was not to be overly ostentatious and be inspired by the wooden houses in American villa suburbs. The house was to blend in with the pines of the forested hillside, have a spacious studio, and be a cozy place for socialising and entertaining. Boberg completed the commission, and by 1897 the villa was finished. Villa Tallbacken would become the first of a long series of houses that Boberg designed for artists and collectors.
