Photographer Martin Parr is set to feature in the exhibition ‘Short & Sweet’ at Fotografiska in Stockholm. The exhibition, which runs from 22 May to 27 September 2026, is a major retrospective of works by the British Magnum photographer, one of the most influential and well-known photographers of our time, who passed away in December 2025. The exhibition summarises over 50 years of Parr’s captivating and colourful depictions and features iconic series such as The Last Resort, Small World and Common Sense.
Martin Parr was known for his observations of British society in the form of everyday images with strong, vivid colours and often with a humorous undertone, whilst at the same time scrutinising consumerism with a critical gaze. He began his career taking black-and-white photographs inspired by photographers such as Bill Brandt, but over the years came to photograph in colour. He played a major role in broadening the scope of photography as an art form and medium, moving away from documentary photography in black and white towards a more playful approach.
According to The Guardian, he described his photographs as follows: “I take serious photographs disguised as entertainment”.
