Muut tiedot

"Andreas Eriksson's paintings and sculptures evoke thoughts of a prehistoric time with fragile fossils and archaic rock landscapes. They concern barely perceptible shifts in existence, about transformation acts in silence. In the thin layer painting, tree forms or reflections of bill light may appear. Chance has an important place, and in the new works, Andreas Eriksson opens the door to the unconscious in a more apparent way than before." (From Sophie Allgårdh's review in 2011 in SvD of the exhibition at Galleri Riis in Stockholm).

Andreas Eriksson's imagery moves between the abstract and the representational, with motifs that may remind one of landscapes, soil layers, or textile patterns. The forms of nature – such as trees, water, and rocks – dissolve into tranquil and contemplative images.

Eriksson works in many techniques, including painting, photography, sculpture, textile, and installation. His colours are often earthy and drawn from nature, with a poetic expression that evokes thoughts of the Nordic light. There is a quiet intensity in his works – a kind of silence that opens up for reflection.

Since 2000, Eriksson has lived and worked by a lake in a forested area. This place is central to his art and serves as a constant source of inspiration. The changes in the landscape, both small and large, nourish a slow and investigative creativity.

Andreas Eriksson (b. 1975 in Björsäter) lives and works in Medelplana. He studied at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm (1993–98) and has since exhibited extensively, both in Sweden and internationally.

He has most recently been shown at Stephen Friedman Gallery, London; Lidköping Art Hall; neugerriemschneider, Berlin; Take on Edvard Munch, Thielska Galleriet; and the Museum of Sketches, Lund. In 2021, SAK published a monograph on his work. Previous solo exhibitions include Artspace de 11 Linjen in Belgium, Braunsfelder Family Collection in Cologne, Work in Progress at the Museum of Sketches, and the touring exhibition Roundabout at Bonniers Konsthall, Trondheim Kunstmuseum, Centre PasquaArt, Reykjavik Art Museum.

Eriksson's works are included in several prominent collections, such as the Centre Pompidou (Paris), MUMOK (Vienna), the National Museum (Oslo), Moderna Museet (Stockholm), Gothenburg Museum of Art, and X Museum (Beijing).

Andreas Eriksson is a Swedish artist, born in 1975 in Lidköping. Eriksson studied at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm between 1993 and 1998, and works with various techniques in his artistic practice, including painting, photography, sculpture, textiles, and graphics.
A recurring theme in Andreas Eriksson's works is the presence of nature; the light over meadows, forests, and mountains is shaped into structures, blocks of color, and organic formations. Often, a motif emerges that can be interpreted as landscapes, shifting between figurative and abstract spatialities. However, Eriksson suggests that the rich and almost sculptural works can just as easily be seen as something other than interpretations of nature; as internal, diffuse landscapes where the viewer can linger.
After a period of work in Berlin, Andreas Eriksson now resides in Medelplana on Kinnekulle in Västergötland. In 2011, he represented Sweden at the Venice Biennale with Fia Backström. Eriksson is also represented at institutions such as the Gothenburg Museum of Art, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, the Nasher and David J. Haemseigger Collection of Contemporary Art in the USA, the Sara Hilden Art Museum in Finland, and the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark. He became a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in 2014.
