A five-piece "Birka" dining suite, Nordiska Kompaniet, Sweden, 1930s.
Consisting of a round table, top and sides veneered with olive ash, angled legs veneered with maple, two birch-veneered extension leaves. The table with manufacturer's metal label NK R 38669, the four chairs with curved backs veneered with olive ash, upholstered seats with later upholstery, legs with maple veneer. Table diameter 120 cm + 60 cm x 2, chair height 77.5 cm, seat height ca 45 cm. The table with a mounted bell underneath.
Normal wear and marks.
The present dining suite was commissioned by a family from Stockholm along with a sideboard (referred to in the archive as "chest") in the mid-1930s and has remained in the same family since then. The sideboard was sold at Bukowskis Modern Art + Design no 652, in the autumn of 2023.
