A rare "Eftermiddag" (Afternoon) armchair, Nordiska Kompaniet, Sweden, ca. 1937
Elm, partially fluted on the frame, armrests, and legs, upholstered seat and back, covered in a secondary geometrically patterned velvet fabric. Height 108 cm, width 73 cm, seat height ca 42 cm.
Managing Director Sten Hultberg (1909-2002) & textile designer Astrid Sampe (1909-2002).
Thence by descent to the present owner.
Astrid Sampe was the head of the Nordic Company's textile chamber and had a long-standing collaboration with Elias Sveberg. The rugs and textiles that NK exhibited at the exhibition in Paris in 1937 were all composed by Sampe.
